Menai Strait

Bass and more bass from about march through to November

bass and more bass from about march through to November on the right tide but, be aware you will loose tackle the tide runs hard and the jet skies fly by! but its definitely a place to try. You can fish all along the straights on low water peeler and soft crab baits you should be using if not big rag worm, night time proves to be a good choice no need to cast out far here most of the time the fish are right at your feet. The straights also holds some very big conger eels use fish baits to tempt them out dead bait live bait if you can get? deadly if you have live bait, I’ve seen some monster conger eels coming out of the straights close to the bridge on the main land side.

Church island

Close by to the Menai bridge is church island this can be and has been productive lately for the bass. With plenty of schoolie bass at the moment on lures, also some very nice sea trout have been taken close to the island. While I was there I saw a number of them jumping out of the water very close to where I was standing. Very frustrating at times when you see them jumping so close to where you are. Most of the time the bass can be taken on small rubber sand eel imitation lures. As for the sea trout metal lures tend to work well,if you can and have access to a fly rod then using a fly sand eel imitation is definitely a good choice.

Britannia bridge

Britannia bridge another good area to fish for sea trout and bass, this mark has been producing some very nice sea trout and bass, the area around the bridge is most definitely best fished on a smaller tides. Both sea trout and bass in big numbers, its best fished one hour before low water then fished back in for another two hours. But in Wales anglers need a licence if they are targeting sea trout. Even if they are fishing a saltwater mark. Sea trout must be returned to the sea as soon as possible in order to stay on the right side of the law. So you will need to keep on the right side of the ”Environment Agency enforcement officer’s.” Don’t be fooled as they do quite often visit this area.

Belan point

Car parking is to the right hand side of the beach near the end of the road just as you reach the bend. Then walk a one and half mile trek along the dune sand path. Fish between low and high, your better off fishing this venue with a small tide as the current runs hard.
Tope on fish baits some very nice flounders can be had with bass on lug crab and ragworm the best time is about 1 hour after high then fish it down the ebb.

Llŷn Peninsula

The long finger of the llyn peninsula probes deep into the sea. The northern coast is mainly rocky and the bays are small. For excellent bass head to the storm beaches to the west. The rocks hold good sized pollack and wrasse. Big shoals of bass run along the reefs when sand eels and mackerel are around in late summer they patrol the rolling surf beaches
