December bass fishing

Fishing on the Menai straits during the month of December for bass, a great time to go out especially on the bigger tides and the wind in the right direction (south westerly) on this particular day we had gusts of up to 50 mph that gave the sea a good stir up, so that meant we weren’t going to miss a great opportunity. With plenty of bass around during a storm, especially here in North Wales.

During a storm, bass often seek shelter near structures like rocks, or other underwater features. Target these areas where bass may be hiding for protection. Fishing an incoming tide is often productive for bass fishing. As the tide comes in, it can push baitfish and other prey closer to the shore, attracting bass looking for an easy meal. While incoming tides are generally best, outgoing tides can also be productive. Bass may move to shallower areas during storms, especially if there is a drop in barometric pressure.

Car parking is to the right hand side of the beach near the end of the road just as you reach the bend. Then walk a one and half mile trek along the dune sand path. Fish between low and high, your better off fishing this venue with a small tide as the current runs hard.
Tope on fish baits some very nice flounders can be had with bass on lug crab and ragworm the best time is about 1 hour after high then fish it down the ebb.

Llŷn Peninsula

The long finger of the llyn peninsula probes deep into the sea. The northern coast is mainly rocky and the bays are small. For excellent bass head to the storm beaches to the west. The rocks hold good sized pollack and wrasse. Big shoals of bass run along the reefs when sand eels and mackerel are around in late summer they patrol the rolling surf beaches
