Lure fishing in north Wales

If you’re just starting out spinning “Lure fishing” in north Wales

If you’re just starting out spinning “Lure fishing in north Wales” its always a good idea do a little research before you get started. Type of rod, reel and lures your going to use. But that depends entirely on your budget. My advice would be a lure rod 8 – 9 ft matched with a 3000-4000 a medium sized spinning reel loaded with 20 pound braid with a short 3 ft rubbing leader – fluro (or mono) of about 15 pound braking strain that helps with lure presentation. Spinning reel sizes can be a little confusing because there are two different size classifications around that are both in use. Some reel manufacturers classify their spinning reel sizes starting with 10, 20, 30, etc., while other reel manufacturers classify them as size 1000, 2000, 3000,4000 and so on. The best part about being a beginner lure fishing is that – anyone can do it!
Once you have decided the next step is learning the basics understanding the best times to fish. Tides, time of day, and the weather, the more success you’ll have when deciding when and where to target your fish. Predator fish often gather near structure such as jetties and pilings, and in deep troughs and weed. experience has taught me that rough ground like weed covered rock and boulders is a good start. Fish behaviour revolves around finding food. Of course there is a lot of information via the web, forums, local tackle shops,Youtube catch reports etc.

The main factor

The main factor to consider when choosing where to cast out your lure, first and foremost is food supply. A mark that holds a plentiful supply, by that I mean locating baitfish holding in the water is where you would and should to be putting your lure, as a predatory fish will be waiting for an easy meal at the edge of the the deeper and shallower ground. So “match the hatch” by that I mean trying to imitate what,s already in the water. Fast currents make it difficult for the baitfish to move through the current holding them in the shallower water. Bass can often be caught very close to the shore where they patrol up and down hunting for small fish, Bass feed on small fish and sand eels accounting for the majority of bass captures so once again try to “match the hatch”. I would recommend using sand eel imitation lures all day long as they are cheaper to buy along with metal lures but again its your budget, if you really want to spend money on lures then a plug I would recommend is the Tackle house feed shallow lure which when reeled in swim just beneath the surface as for top water lures then there’s really only one option in my mind that’s the Patchinko top surface lure .but then your moving into expensive lures especially as you will no doubt loose your lures occasionally.

Lure fishing

Lure fishing for bass has become incredibly popular here in north Wales. I would say that the best time to lure fish is at dawn and dusk. As for daytime fishing a rising tide and high tide are usually the best times for most fish, but Some fish prefer hunting on a low tide and as the tide is turning. Again I say forums and local tackle shops can provide useful information as can a local lure fisherman who might give you some useful info on local marks to try. Never be afraid or embarrassed to ask the local tackle shops as they do get dozens and dozens of people every day asking the same thing.

Belan point

Car parking is to the right hand side of the beach near the end of the road just as you reach the bend. Then walk a one and half mile trek along the dune sand path. Fish between low and high, your better off fishing this venue with a small tide as the current runs hard.
Tope on fish baits some very nice flounders can be had with bass on lug crab and ragworm the best time is about 1 hour after high then fish it down the ebb.

Llŷn Peninsula

The long finger of the llyn peninsula probes deep into the sea. The northern coast is mainly rocky and the bays are small. For excellent bass head to the storm beaches to the west. The rocks hold good sized pollack and wrasse. Big shoals of bass run along the reefs when sand eels and mackerel are around in late summer they patrol the rolling surf beaches
